In this episode we visit the more than 500 year old wine cellar of St Joannes winery in the Penedez region of Spain. Desiree walks through the cellar with the owner, Basilio, who shows her some of the artifacts discovered in the cellar during recent renovations. After the brief history lesson, we get on to the business of tasting the latest batch of St Joannes wine, their Xarel.lo & Cabernet (mixed with a bit of Tempranillo). The St Joannes winery is small and family owned, but they are in the midst of renovating the bodega to include a 6 room bed & breakfast that sits right on top of the cellar in the main winery building. St Joannes is an up and coming winery to watch for the years ahead, and if your planning a trip to Catalan wine country, it should include St Joannes.
