Street Reviews Logrono Harvest Festival Part 3/8 “Champinones”
Do you like this story?
Logrono and its inhabitants woke up much earlier than I did. The sounds of the busy street below trickled through my windows for a few hours as I lay half-asleep. Finally, a petite marching band provided the inspiration to get out of bed and join the party. Is this Logrono? I took off down Calle de Murrieta towards the main catedral with one thing in mind...food. I couldn't figure out why was I so hungry, but when the church bells rang only one time I realized it was lunch time. The streets everywhere were crammed with people, vending carts, musicians, delivery trucks, street performers, servicios operativos, etc, etc...you name it! It seemed like a busy Saturday afternoon in a Paris shopping district, but it was only mid-week in small-town northern Spain! What's a fiesta without street preformers? Feeling as though diabetic shock was coming, I stopped at the first plaza where I smelled food. Without my trusty program, there was no telling what was cooking, but a huge line and tantalizing smells assured me that whatever it was would be delicious. The champinones (wild mushrooms) were absolutely amazing and provided me with the energy needed to carry on to the next plaza and sample the next tasty snack. This was how I occupied myself for the rest of the day, careful not to overdo things because of the big day planned for tomorrow.  Sandy would be taking me to the La Flecha Amarilla winery! Another plaza; another gastronomic delight!
