While touring any foreign country it is easy to get a little tired of all of the hustle and bustle of big cities, and even the smaller "tourist towns". This was certainly the case during my recent adventure in southern Spain. You wouldn't believe how hard I work searching the globe for great wine and beautiful destinations to show you! As luck would have it, after a few days of searching high and low, I managed to find a little slice of heaven on earth.

Located near the small town of Pizarra and surrounded by beautiful Andalucian mountains, the Valle de Vida Holistic Health Retreat Center was the perfect place to sit back, relax and enjoy some great Spanish wine. The hilltop yoga platform seemed to be calling my name as I looked for a proper spot to unwind with my favorite drink. Slightly winded, upon reaching the top of the hill I soon decided the short climb was well worth it. My hosts had brought a lovely bottle of one of their favorites, Halchon, for us to enjoy while watching the sun slowly descend.

The rugged landscape here captures your heart and imagination almost instantly. My fellow enthusiasts will quickly fall in love with the wine too. Wine lovers definitely have it good here! The shelves of markets everywhere are stocked with tasty inexpensive local wines. You can pick up winners like the Halchon I sampled and countless others for about 3 dollars or less! I highly recommend trying as many as possible if you get the chance to explore the region for yourself. One word of caution though, with all of the beautiful scenery and great wine don't be surprised if you find yourself spending a lot more time in Andalucia than you intended. My four week stay turned into almost four months while trying to see and taste everything...and document it! Valle de Vida was a great place to relax and enjoy a fine glass of wine before heading back to work...finding more beautiful places and great wines !
